Physician Pain Therapy
(Newest replies first)

Updated

I have been on a combination of oxycontin and cortisone for 8 years. I've always taken them as directed and never missed my medication. I've only had 2 doctors in 10 years that prescribed my medication. Unfortunately I need a new doctor now and don't know who to see. I feel like doctors are punishing me for being on these medications, but they have worked very well with no side effects for 8 years. Without them I would be much,much less active I will never be pain free but these medications make my neuropathy, arthritis and osteoporosis manageable. I also have liver issues so I am limited with medications. Please let me know if anyone can help. I'm located east of the city. Thank You Denise. {edited for privacy}

Hi. I grew up in Churchill, Pa I now live in Cranberry, Pa (Mars, Seven Fields) I've been on pain meds for 15+yrs. My old doc started me on Vicodin ES for many yrs I started abusing those along w many others my pain management docs prescribed. I ended up on Oxycontin 80mgs before they reformulated them. Then my pain doc had to stop seeing me due to my failed drug screens. (I was insufflating both oxy's & coke, speedball. I'm lucky I'm alive but coke back then as well as now isn't worth anything.) I really screwed up my life back then. I went to a few rehabs & I learned if you want to quit you will. No one can make you. I went thru hell. Make long story short (seems so long, sorry) I am addicted to H. I hate it. It's too expensive & only 2 of my friends know I'm on it. When I run out I'm miserable. I can't function I have to cancel or blow off whatever I had planned. Thank god I don't have a 9 to 5 job.

My PCP started me on Opanas then Roxy's. Now since I won't screw around with him (he's a shady a**hole) & since he can't make cash off my rx he stopped prescribing the ones that got me where I use to be w original Oxys. He gives me rx for Vicodin ES since my tolerance is too high. If you need a good Pain doc who I was seeing before I failed those drug panels I'll give you his info. Just reply back & if you can give me your email I'll send his info over. He's located in North Hills at UPMC Passavant Hospital. If you know of any docs I can see ( have herniated disc, degenerative disc disorder, extra vertebra in my neck, arthritis, I actually forget what else I have going on but that's enough) I wish you luck & thanks for reading my issues. Hope to hear back. Take care

I am not on cortisone my computer changed that. I am on a combination of oxycontin and oxycodone My script ends on the 25th. I have been taking it 8 years for severe lupus. I also had to have major surgery to my neck on the 10th. I had to get a nerve untouched but ended up getting 3 herniated disks fixed and my bone shaved. I live in North Versailles,PA. I am terrified because my medication ends on the 25th and I don't know what to do, the new doctor my insurance hooked me up with is very discriminatory of pain patients even though my record is spotless.
Thank you for responding but I'm really ready to be done with all this I feel so helpless and I'm one of the ones that was determined to do everything right. My doctor is doctor Handlesman in forest hills PA. I can't talk to him, he's discriminatory toward people in my situation and has said as much. I just have no energy to fight this, and can't really get anywhere in my condition right now.

Hello, Denise! How are you doing? I'm very sorry that you're in pain.

As to the medications, first of all, the Cortisone is a steroid, so it could actually worsen your osteoporosis. You may want to reevaluate taking it.

And you didn't mention which city. Can you please post back and clarify? Thank you!

Is your current doctor no longer prescribe the Oxycontin?

This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.
