Daytrana Patches Expired Six Months Ago Is It Safe To Use
(Newest replies first)

Updated

I have 15 mg Daytrana patches that expired July 2015. Are they still safe to use? My reason for this, Daytrana is in shortage supply wise throughout the US due to a recall in 2014. Recently I tried acquiring the 20mg patches and was told by my pharmacy they may get them by end of 2015. However, Dr gave me script for 10mg that I will get on this Monday to use two together to make 20mg. Until then, is it safe to use the 15mg in a pinch for I only have one 20mg patch left.

Can I ask what pharmacy you use and what state you are in. My pharmacy said they can't get the 15 mg patches and we are all out today. Thank you!

Thank you for your reply, my sons pharmacy finally got in a shipment of 20mg patches. So far they are sticking well, however, I always have used the tegaderm myself due to the previous problems removal of the backing and the patches coming off easily. The Daytrana was actually recalled in 2014 due to the patches not sticking and the removal of the backing. That is why we now have the shortage which stinks. May 2014 to end of Dec 2016 that was very unprofessional of the Noven Company. Thank you again

I would add that the glue on the patch may not work as well as it gets older. It's a drag if the patches won't stick. Also I sometimes can't get the patch to come off the backing easily. I've always assumed it was because of an older batch. You can get unsticky patches to stick better by covering them with a Tegaderm film, a bit larger than the patch.

Hello, Kristine! How are you?

They don't become dangerous, once expired, but they can start to lose effectiveness, so they may not work as well as they did, when new. It would be best to dispose of them and obtain a new supply.

The FDA lists the typical side feet of this medication as possibly including headache, dizziness, insomnia and nervousness.

Is there anything else I can help with?
