Why are so many responders referring to Adderall as Speed? From my understanding, speed is a methamphetamine? Just wondering because I am considering Adderall as a possible alternative to Ritalin but don't want to take Speed!

yes taking that much can harm u but it doesnt take people long to build up that way i take 4 30mg XR a day and have only been perscribed adderal for right at 6 months. i am not addicted just have a high tollerance for it i go about a week with no pills because i am taking so much a day but if i take any less it doesnt seem to help so the week i am without any adderal im deppressed but it doesnt stop me from doing what i need to do but yes it is 1 of the most commen drugs that people get addicted to just saying taking an unussual amount isnt always a sign of addiction bcuz i dont feel like i need the adderal to do anything it just is a major help in my life.

Change the name around however you want. Get a new Rx. Come up with a different Rx name that, "sounds better." Bottom line is, Adderall/Ritalin/Etc is just a legal form of Meth/Speed; Same effects, Same ingredients (give or take a few, depending.) Speed you buy down the street is only illegal because it cant be regulated/taxed. Its quite an obvious pattern when you consider all the Rx versions of Heroin (Oxy, Vicodin, Percocet, Morphine) available, and don't forget the ridiculous amount of mood altering psychotropic Rx's we have access to, you know, the Rx's that have taken over commercials! "Take this pill, but, you may experience liver failure, have sleeping troubles, thoughts of suicide, a** bleeding, hair loss, bone degeneration, hives, stomach cancer, throat cancer, bladder cancer, any other form of cancer that exists, loss of reality, exception of reality, etc." Lovely thought that if I have medical insurance and know my doctor well enough I can pretty much have any drug I want (just give the magic symptoms.) On the other hand we have those who cant afford medical insurance,(many people today)
GUY 1) Walks down the street chewing on Adderall/Vicodin that his moms insurance plan pays for. Clearly high, a police officer stops him. GUY 1 flashes him his prescription and continues his stroll.
Guy 2) Has cancer but still needs to work at his part time job to make rent. After work he decides to smoke some marijuana to try and help with the effects of the chemotherapy/ 8 Hr work day. An officer smells marijuana and walks toward the car. (In many states marijuana is still considered a controlled substance) GUY 2 is arrested and tried in court.

Makes a lot of sense, either your broke and getting high on the street, (or by other illegal means) or your at your doctors office complaining about a problem everyone else has, and probably getting a new Rx(DRUG!!!)

By The Way
To all you parents wondering why your kids are being loud and and having fun, don't worry about it, it might be because, I don't know..... THEY'RE KIDS.... Stop using the excuse, "I want him/her to be quiet & focused" when you really mean, I don't feel like making time/I'm too busy to entertain my kid. Is it really so bad that we need to take our kids to a Dr. and have them diagnosed and prescribed medication for essentially "being a kid." Let them learn about life(excitedly) before you justify giving them drugs to suit your needs..

YOUR KID DOESN'T HAVE A DISORDER, THEIR JUST HAPPY AND EXCITED ABOUT LIFE.
- Its around High School they realize life isn't fun and start using the "left drugs"

I am a 19 year old male, I do not have ADD but I got prescribed Adderall 20 mg tablets strictly for my own high for about one year now. Amphetamines have always been my drug of choice. I have been up since the 25th, it's pretty normal for me to be up for a couple of days if not a few until I crash, but earlier today I was taking pill after pill and before I knew it I was at 400 mg within an 18 hour period. It's called handling your s*** and not being a twacker. Sorry but you people are pussies, fighting about your "speed"? speed is street slang, you get these little pills from a pharmacy. Not a mexican slinging grams of coke and baking soda in your "hood". Adderal takes a toll on the body and causes a little sweating, but once your nuts drop and you can get past the chain smoking and constant jibber jabber, you'll be fine. Just make sure to eat even though you don't want to and maybe the youth to come wont be pussies and fear adderal. you people are all ignorant, and to the girl that smoked, DRANK and did adderall.. mixing a stimulant with a depressant, dumb s***. All of you guys in this chat room that are getting so worked up about it and that get a silly tummy ache from ten milligrams.. Not saying to go and abuse the drug, because I can tolerate my high, utilize it to accomplish things, and when i see people older than me and heavier than me complaining about a 10 mg smurf pill making him sick, i die a little on the inside, because I think to myself... man that guys dad must be so proud of his son. MAN UP, take advantage of your high you get for 5.00 considering you're making something of your life and have health insurance. Adderall is supposed to help you focus and bring you back to homeostasis. Take a few pills.. get happy, and for god sake quit relating it to speed.

Snorting 5 pills would not kill you (considering the dosage of each pill, I think he mentioned 15mg. 5x15=75) Crushing up the beads would change adderall XR in to Adderall IR; Snorting it for full potential high. I know people who are prescribed to take 60mg daily; their bodies could easily tolerate 100+mg. I am prescribed Adderall XR 10mg, I have done up to 6x my prescribed dose. It's extremely hard to have a FATAL overdose on adderall, but keep in mind it is possible. I became addicted fast, taking 4 pills a day instead of 1. While your on the drug it's great, you get stuff DONE while feeling good (other then the common side effects; loss of appetite, dehydration, headaches). Coming down and the 'lows' from adderall are really bad. You get depressed, tired but cant sleep, moody; All of this works together. Imagine taking your adderall, not eatting cause your not hungry and everything seems gross, forgetting to drink water, when it wares out your left with stomach aches, headache, depression, and depending if you've been sleeping well, this will decide if your tired. Today I took 4 pills, I've been in my bed ever since I got home, I've only ate 1 thing today, I feel like I cant do anything when I'm not on adderall. I feel like s***. Guess what I'm doing tomorrow? Waking up, taking 4 more pills and repeating the cycle. Yeah I do better in school, went from failing math to an A in 2 weeks. But is it really worth destroying yourself just for school? I realise not everyone has an addiction problem with Adderall, but your most likely to get one if you abuse this drug like I have. Wow, I wrote a lot, must be the adderall.

my son has been taking adderall 30 XR for 4 yrs. now, and works great!! Honor Role student. 12 years old now and has been taking ADHD meds. since 4 years old. Without his meds, major hyper! Highly recommend, and he has been on many different meds.and this by far the best. Only side effect may be appetite, but doing on the weight gain. He takes it early morning 6:30 AM and has no trouble sleeping. This is just my opinion.

Oh, and I take 30mg, but it's a time release. I can't imagine taking 100mg. That just sounds insane to me. I'm only up to 30mg after 14 years...

I was diagnosed with ADHD at a very young age. My mother is a nurse (LPN at the time, but later became an RN), and she recognized the signs very early. I was not a disobedient child, I was just very hyper. It was practically impossible for me to sit still, I would just blurt out whatever was going through my head, I couldn't focus on anything, and every little noise or movement caught in my peripheral vision would distract me. I started taking Ritalin when I was 8 years old, but developed a vocal tic as a side-affect. My doctor took me off of any medication for a whole summer to see how I would do without it, and I apparently did not do well, because they put me on adderall right before I started 4th grade. I've been on Adderall ever since. My teachers could always tell when I would forget to take my adderall because I was an excellent student normally, but very hard to handle when I'd forget. I'm now 23, so I've been on adderall for 14 years, and I'm not at all addicted. In fact, my prescriptions last me quite a while longer than they're supposed to, because I usually only take my adderall on days when I absolutely need it. I skip weekends, and I often forget to take it during the week (forgetfulness is part of ADHD, unfortunately). The only side affects I've experienced are being extremely dried out, no appetite, some sleep trouble, and I sometimes focus too much on my breathing while I'm on it (which I think may just be me, because I haven't heard of anyone else "focusing on their breathing"). As I've gotten older, I've learned how to cope with my ADHD, and I CAN get by without medication, but it's extremely difficult. I like the way a previous commenter put it: It's like a frustration fog. Focusing for even the shortest amount of time is terribly hard. If my parents had been afraid to medicate me, I'm sure I wouldn't have done as well in school. As long as you have a doctor who knows what they're doing when they prescribe your dosage, taking Adderall can be extremely helpful. Oh, and just to be clear, I've never tried any illegal drugs. I've never even been drunk, so linking usage of Adderall to addictive behavior is absolutely absurd.

Wow.. For the most part you all were pretty on point with your answers (Except the select few whom post answers to topics that had no clue what the question even was!)

1st.!!!!!!!!!!!!! "Take one of your kid's aderalls and see if you want your kid on it. It is the same thing as uncut meth"!!!!

The above is COMPLETELY FALSE.

Meth/MethylAmphetamine/Crystal (Street name called this in crystal form Crystal Meth/Ice ect..)

Meth is speed because it makes you "go fast", and aderall makes you "go fast" so it is speed. It doesn't calm you down. If give it to your kid you should know more about it. Take one of your kid's aderalls and see if you want your kid on it. It is the same thing as uncut meth. I have done meth once, I have taken aderall recreationally, and I have been diagnosed with ADD and ADHD. The feeling is the exact same. It all depletes you dopamine, because meth is synthesized dopamine. Your brain has dopamine and when you ingest more you brain thinks it has too much, so it stops producing or releasing it on its own, and then when you quit the meds there is no natural dopamine left either. (therefore, you "need" more meds and are addicted) Congrats your kid is a methhead and an addict at the age of ten. Don't put kids on drugs; they're suposed to be hyper and not want to pay attention to you. Don't you remember being a kid? Weren't you onre?

These meds often have an opposite affect on a person with add or adhd. It levels my son out, calms him. I took one before, and yes i felt like i was on meth. A person with the add/adhd, it calms them. When my son was on ritalin, he would not eat and had trouble sleeping, and horrible headaches.

My 13 yr old has been on ritalin for years. It was a horrible experience. We switched him to adderoll, which im sorry, they arent methamphetimines, its called anphetimine salt. Adderol isnt even considered a drug that they get dependant on, its not considered an addictive controlled mmsubstance. Its not street dealers makin our prescriptions. Adderol is the ONLY the only med we have had success with. I mean MAJOR SUCCESS, and there are times he doesnt take it, docs approval of course, but hes fine. When he took ritalin, it WAS like an addiction to meth. A real nightmare. I totally approve of adderol

I just recently started taking 40 mg of XR a day (prescribed by a doctor). I guess it's just because my body can handle this much but I never feel like Im drugged out. I just feel better, like functional and productive. Ive gotten great grades and have kept my room clean every since. The most annoying side effect is I lose circulation in my toes every once in a while. Its weird. But as far as not being able to sleep goes, I NEVER take it after 11 o'clock in the morning other wise I won't be able to sleep at all.
